I've tried both the Windows and MAC version and have found a potentially serious problem if you move USB drives bewteen machines: Mozy seems to delete the backup sets already backed up on the old machine! They do no appear in the on-line restore list.

This seems to be caused by Mozy associating your data with a specific computer name. I have two computers registered but as soon as I moved my USB drive to my MAC I lost over 20GB of backup files that had taken over 2 weeks to upload.

I have now closed my Mozy account and will be relying on DVD backups kept off-site.

Seems like $5 a month for unlimited backups *was* too good to be true.

Nothing is secure, besides the client is in beta right now. I do think that they've fixed some of the issues with the last beta update.

The Mac version of Mozy is still in beta, isn't it? The support email sounds a little scary, but isn't the server part of the service also part of the beta? Maybe your expectations for beta software are too high?

Thanks for the comments, Clive. We understand that we have much work left to do to fully realize the potential that exists for this type of product, and we will be updating the product on a very frequent basis. Back/Forward button & Location/Status bar support is coming. Client performance will improve and I'll see what I can do to raise the priority of color scheme selection (that includes non-blue options of course).

I agree in that this type of apps is the future of Web 2.0, but i'm not convinced about the use of Flash - I find it rather slow although it's more intuitive than other apps of its generation (for example www.applicationexchange.com).

Cheers.

Good point. I think that Highrise is a good product, but it needs to complement Basecamp both financially, and also as an app.
